Fake News on Social Media
Social media and technology are
changing how we think and carry on daily activities without us even realizing
it. It is easier than ever to find information but is also easier than ever to
find many trusted media sources that give biased news. This is wrong in so many
ways and it seems to be borderline brainwashing. In Americas recent
Presidential elections, we saw how polarized this country is and how the media
has all of the power to control how the population thinks. Actors and
influencers alike are paid to choose sides as well as endorsing who they think
would be best suited for a career in politics, and because of their public
influence, people follow suit. Hackers can gain access into social media
databases to increase the algorithm of campaign ads, created by politicians
that they favor. Foreign nations launched influence campaigns to undermine the
electability of Hillary Clinton. Technology and the media along with social
media are coming up with new ways to program the publics thought and manipulate
legitimate news stories to fit the agendas of the elites. The current state of
media in this country has proven to be an untrustworthy source of news time after
time.
