George Edwin Taylor's Race

                                                 The Historic Race

George Edwin Taylor
Racism, misfortune, and oppression, have always been key conflicts in our society past and present. George Edwin Taylor grew up in the midst of the slavery era just before the civil war.
Despite the fact that he grew up a trouble maker, and landed in a foster home, he straightened up and became an inspirational figure for many black Americans. Taylor grew up in Illinois after his mother took him as an infant to flee the state of Arkansas, leaving behind his enslaved father. His mother died in 1962 leaving him alone with no family, and when that happened, Taylor was put into the home of the Smith family until the age of 20. College was extremely important back then and it is still important today maybe even more valuable. in order to work his way up and create a life for himself, Taylor enrolled at Wayland University. The Disenfranchisement of black people in America was at an extreme after the civil war, which made it hard for him to find proper work but when he did, he only took off from there. Taylor kept moving up in the labor force, politics, and in the newspaper company in which he was an editor of. That newspaper was majority white readers which says a lot about George Taylors ability to see past the victim mindset and to set out for something greater. Taylor was a very interesting individual, he never backed down and he knew when to be a leader and when to be a follower. During the many trials and tribulations, Taylor remained near the top in anything he did. His ability to become a presidential candidate and identify as an independent democrat, the party of slavery, during a very xenophobic time period in America says a lot about his character. From the poor background he came from, the unfortunate turn of events that was his early life, and his astonishing bravery, moral, and disciplinary code that he lived by -- George Edwin Taylor found it in himself to make it all possible.
